Oman’s Youth Sailing Team Shines at 1st Youth GCC Games
Muscat – Oman’s youth sailing team made a splash at the 1st Youth GCC Games in the United Arab Emirates, bringing home a total of seven medals, including three golds. The team’s outstanding performance was highlighted by Abdul Latif al Qasmi, who dominated the ILCA 4 competition with a perfect score of eight wins out of eight races to claim the gold medal.
Elyas al Fadali also stood out, securing the gold in the ILCA 6 category after a thrilling final race. The team’s success continued with a gold medal in the Optimist class, showcasing the depth of talent within the Omani sailing squad.
Tamim Al Balushi displayed his skills by clinching the silver medal in the Optimist fleet, while Hatem Al Araimi added to the team’s medal tally with a bronze in the ILCA 6 division. Tarteel al Hasani and Hood al Nofli also impressed, earning bronze and fourth place respectively in the Optimist competition.
The team’s strong showing was a result of their dedication and hard work, as well as the guidance of coach Mundher al Kindi. Abdul Aziz al Shidi, Oman Sail’s Sailing Development Manager, praised the team’s performance and expressed confidence in their future success.
With a total of 31 medals, including 13 golds, Oman currently sits fourth in the medal table at the Youth GCC Games. The event, which features 25 sports and over 3500 athletes from across the Gulf region, has provided a platform for Oman’s young sailors to showcase their talent on a regional stage.
