Lauren Price prepares for world title fight with sparring partner Chantelle Cameron
Olympic gold medallist Lauren Price is gearing up for her world title fight against Jessica McCaskill by sparring with former undisputed champion Chantelle Cameron. Price, 29, will be vying for the WBA, IBO, and Ring Magazine welterweight titles in Cardiff on 11 May.
Cameron, who thwarted McCaskill’s bid for undisputed super lightweight champion in 2022, has been helping Price prepare for the upcoming bout. Price expressed her confidence in her training camp, stating, “We got some good rounds in. Camp is going really well and I’m in a good place mentally and physically.”
This will be Price’s first shot at a world championship and her first fight in Wales since turning professional after her success at the Tokyo Olympics. The fight has the potential to elevate Price into the upper echelons of the women’s fight scene, alongside the likes of Cameron, Katie Taylor, Natasha Jonas, and Sandy Ryan.
Price is excited about the opportunity to showcase big-time boxing in Wales, with the fight set to take place at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena and being broadcast free-to-air on BBC Wales in a simulcast with Sky Sports. The undercard will feature Welsh prospects Rhys Edwards and Kyran Jones, whom Price has trained with and supported throughout their careers.
With the anticipation building for the world title fight, Price remains focused on her preparation and is eager to put on a show for her fans. As she looks ahead to 11 May, Price is determined to make a statement in the ring and solidify her place among the elite in women’s boxing.
