Olivia Dunne Leads LSU Gymnastics Team to First NCAA Championship Victory
Olivia Dunne, the star gymnast from Louisiana State University, celebrated her team’s historic NCAA women’s gymnastics championship win over the weekend in Fort Worth, Texas. The LSU squad, led by Dunne, put on a near perfect performance in front of over 7,600 fans to secure the school’s first-ever championship title.
Dunne took to social media to share her excitement, posting on Instagram Stories, “Best day ever!” She continued to share photos and videos of herself with the team’s NCAA trophy, expressing her pride in being a part of the championship-winning team.
LSU scored a remarkable 198.2250 at the finals, with standout performances from senior Sierra Ballard and Aleah Finnegan. The team’s victory was met with congratulations from former LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese, who tweeted her support for the gymnasts.
Despite missing much of last season due to arm injuries, Dunne made a strong comeback this season, contributing to LSU’s success in winning the SEC Conference championship earlier in the year. With a massive following on social media, Dunne has become one of the most well-known college athletes, with millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram.
As the face of the team and one of the top-earning women’s athletes in NCAA, Dunne’s future in gymnastics remains uncertain. She has the option to return for a fifth season under the NCAA’s COVID rule, but has not made a decision yet.
Dunne’s success on and off the mat has solidified her place as a gymnastics icon, and her impact on the sport is sure to be felt for years to come.
