Syracuse Transfer Maliq Brown Commits to Duke Basketball
Maliq Brown, the former Syracuse forward, has officially committed to Duke basketball, bringing his talent and experience to the Blue Devils’ roster. The 6-foot-8, 222-pound player announced his decision on Instagram after a visit to Durham to meet with head coach Jon Scheyer and the coaching staff.
Brown, a native of Culpeper, Virginia, had a standout sophomore season at Syracuse, averaging 9.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. He was also named to the ACC All-Defensive Team, showcasing his strong defensive abilities on the court.
With his commitment to Duke, Brown will join returning players Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster, providing a solid foundation for the team next season. He is expected to make an immediate impact, either as a starter or coming off the bench, adding depth to the Blue Devils’ lineup.
Brown is the first transfer to commit to Duke this cycle, with the possibility of another transfer, Mason Gillis from Purdue, also considering a move to Durham. Duke still has four open scholarships to fill alongside their incoming top-ranked recruiting class, led by Cooper Flagg.
Fans can expect an exciting season ahead with Brown’s addition to the team. Stay tuned to Blue Devil Country on SI for more updates on Duke basketball news.
