Balraj Panwar secures Paris Games berth with bronze at Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualification rowing competition

Balraj Panwar’s impressive performance at the Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualification rowing competition in Chungju, South Korea, has earned him a well-deserved spot at the Paris Games. The talented rower clinched the single scull bronze, confirming his place among the elite athletes who will represent India on the international stage.

Panwar’s journey to success has been nothing short of remarkable. Having only taken up rowing four years ago after joining the Army, where he serves with the Bengal Engineering Group, the 23-year-old has shown tremendous dedication and skill in mastering the sport. His hard work paid off as he put on a stellar performance in Chungju, finishing behind Kazakhstan’s Vladislav Yakovlev and Memo of Indonesia in the single scull event.

Despite facing tough competition, Panwar remained focused and determined throughout the race. While he led the field for a significant portion of the race, he admitted to getting a bit over-excited towards the end, which cost him the top spot. However, his strong showing was enough to secure his qualification for the Olympics, a dream come true for the young athlete.

Panwar’s success was not the only highlight of the day, as para rowers Anita and Narayana Konganapalle also secured their Paris Games berths by winning the mixed double scull gold. However, there was a sense of disappointment in the lightweight double scull event, as Arvind Singh and Ujjwal Kumar narrowly missed out on qualification.

With his sights set on making a mark at the Olympics, Panwar is eager to represent his country on the world stage. His journey from a novice rower to an Olympic qualifier is a testament to his talent and determination, and fans can expect to see more great things from him in the future.
