Josh Naylor’s Two-Run Homer Propels Cleveland Guardians to Victory Over Oakland Athletics
The Cleveland Guardians continued their winning ways on Saturday night, as Josh Naylor’s two-run homer propelled them to a 6-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics. Naylor’s animated celebration, which included striking himself on the helmet with his bat, added an extra level of excitement to the game.
Naylor’s blast in the fifth inning off Alex Wood gave the Guardians a 4-2 lead, and he followed it up with an RBI single in the seventh to drive in Steven Kwan. Naylor, who is hitting .429 with five homers and 11 RBIs in eight home games this season, has been a key contributor to Cleveland’s success.
Teammate Steven Kwan also had a standout performance, collecting two doubles and two singles in the game. José Ramírez and Ramón Laureano added RBI doubles to help secure the victory for the Guardians, who now boast the best record in the American League at 15-6.
Manager Stephen Vogt praised Naylor’s emotional and charismatic playing style, noting that as long as he didn’t injure himself during the celebration, he was fine with it. The Guardians have now won six of their last seven games and are off to their best start through 21 games since 1999.
On the pitching side, Logan Allen picked up his third win of the season, allowing three runs on five hits over five innings. Emmanuel Clase closed out the game with his sixth save of the season.
The Guardians will look to continue their winning streak in the series finale against the Athletics, with Ross Stripling taking on Tanner Bibee on the mound. Stripling, who is tied for the major league lead in losses, will be looking to turn his season around, while Bibee aims to build on his solid performances so far.
