Ospreys’ Nicky Smith aims for success in final games before Leicester move
In a heartfelt interview, departing Ospreys prop Nicky Smith expressed his determination to finish his time with the team on a high note by securing a spot in the United Rugby Championship play-offs.
After being knocked out of the European Challenge Cup quarter-finals by Gloucester, Ospreys now have their sights set on finishing in the top half of the league. Smith, who will be joining Leicester next season, emphasized the importance of making the play-offs for the season to be considered a success.
“It won’t be a success if we don’t make it,” said Smith, reflecting on his time with the Ospreys and the honor of representing his hometown team. With just five league games remaining, Ospreys are currently in South Africa preparing for matches against Stormers and Bulls.
Despite his upcoming move to an English club, Smith remains hopeful for future international opportunities with Wales. The 30-year-old prop, who missed the start of the Six Nations due to injury, expressed his ambition to continue representing his country.
“It’s everyone’s ambition to play for their country, I am no different,” said Smith. “If international honors come from it, then brilliant. But the main thing was (getting) an opportunity to look at myself and think – is this the right opportunity to really test myself?”
As Smith prepares for the next chapter in his rugby career, he remains focused on helping Ospreys secure a spot in the play-offs and push for silverware. Fans will be eagerly watching as Smith and his teammates strive to end the season on a high note.
