Tayla Vlaeminck shines as Australia thrashes Bangladesh in T20 opener

Tayla Vlaeminck made a triumphant return to international cricket as Australia dominated Bangladesh in the series-opening Twenty20 international. The Victorian quick, playing her first game for Australia since January 2022, announced her comeback in style by taking a wicket with just her fourth ball.

Despite facing multiple setbacks due to injuries, including two ACL ruptures and a shoulder dislocation, Vlaeminck showed her resilience and talent on the field. Her pace and precision were on full display as she finished with figures of 1-30, helping restrict Bangladesh to 4-126.

Teaming up with fellow Victorian Sophie Molineux, who also impressed with figures of 2-25, Vlaeminck showcased her potential for the upcoming World Cup. With the tournament set to take place in Bangladesh later this year, Vlaeminck’s performance has put her in contention for selection.

In the chase, Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney put on a batting masterclass, guiding Australia to victory without losing a single wicket. Healy’s explosive 65 not out and Mooney’s solid 55 not out ensured Australia’s comfortable win, marking their fourth 10-wicket victory in T20 history.

With Vlaeminck’s inspiring comeback and the dominant display by the Australian team, fans can expect an exciting series ahead. As the players gear up for the World Cup, the team’s performance in the series opener has set a strong foundation for success in the upcoming matches.
