Taulupe Faletau suffers injury setback on Cardiff comeback
Wales number eight Taulupe Faletau’s return to the rugby field was short-lived as he suffered another injury setback during Cardiff’s clash against Ulster in the United Rugby Championship. Faletau, who had been sidelined for six months due to a broken arm and calf injury, was forced off the field in the 30th minute clutching the same arm he had previously injured.
Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt expressed concern over Faletau’s latest injury, hoping it is not a recurrence of his previous arm injury. Sherratt stated, “He is being assessed after having a knock on his shoulder and we don’t know the extent of the injury yet. It is not the same injury from my understanding. Fingers crossed, it’s not too bad because he’s put a huge amount of effort in over the last six or seven months to come back.”
In addition to Faletau’s injury, Cardiff found themselves on the wrong end of decisions by referee Mike Adamson during the match. The team was left frustrated after a knock-on in the build-up to Ulster’s try was not picked up by the officials, ultimately impacting the outcome of the game.
Despite the disappointing result, Sherratt emphasized the need for his team to focus on improving their performance and not rely on referee decisions to determine the outcome of matches. Cardiff’s defeat marked their 10th loss in 14 league games this season, highlighting the challenges they have faced in securing victories.
As Faletau faces another injury setback and Cardiff continues to struggle in the league, the team will need to regroup and work on addressing their weaknesses to turn their season around.
