Purdue Women’s Basketball Adds Second Transfer Portal Addition: Mahri Petree
The Purdue women’s basketball team continues to make moves in the offseason, adding its second transfer portal addition with the commitment of Mahri Petree. The 5-foot-11 wing, who spent the past three seasons at UTEP, will be entering her sixth season of college basketball.
Petree began her career at Bradley before transferring to UTEP, where she averaged 8.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last season. Despite missing most of the 2022-23 season due to injury, Petree has shown her potential on the court and will bring valuable experience to the Boilermakers.
With one year of eligibility remaining, Petree will join former Stephen F. Austin guard Destini Lombard in Purdue’s backcourt. Lombard, the WAC Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 10.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.6 steals per game last season.
Interestingly, Petree is the younger sister of former Boilermaker standout Lasha Petree, who was Purdue’s leading scorer during the 2022-23 season. The addition of Mahri Petree adds another layer of excitement for Purdue fans as they look forward to the upcoming season.
The Boilermakers are coming off a 15-19 year, reaching the Great 8 round of the WNIT. With the addition of Petree and Lombard, along with other key players returning, Purdue is poised to make a strong push in the upcoming season.
In related news, the Purdue women’s basketball team announced plans to travel to Europe in August for a series of games in Spain and Portugal. Additionally, freshman guard Emily Monson has entered the transfer portal, while senior guard Jeanae Terry has declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft.
