Navy Women’s Rowing Team Shows Resilience at Doc Hosea Invite
The Navy women’s rowing team faced tough competition at the 2024 Doc Hosea Invite on Saturday, but they showed resilience and determination throughout the day. Despite a challenging start in the initial heat sessions, the Mids came back strong in the petite finals, securing victories in three out of five contests.
Head coach Joe Schlosberg expressed disappointment with the team’s performance in the first round of racing but commended their efforts in the finals. He emphasized the need for improvement moving forward and is confident that the team can do better in upcoming competitions.
The regatta was divided into two sessions, with Navy competing against a talented 12-team field on a 2,000-meter stretch of the Cooper River. The Mids faced tough competition from schools like Penn, Northeastern, and George Washington in the heat races, with only the top two finishers advancing to the finals.
Despite narrowly missing out on grand final berths in several events, Navy’s second varsity eight, third varsity eight, and second varsity four all emerged victorious in the petite finals. The Mids showcased their strength and determination as they crossed the finish line ahead of their competitors in these races.
Looking ahead, Navy will continue their season next Saturday with dual competitions at Overpeck Park in Leonia, N.J. The team will compete in the Atlantic-10 Invitational before facing off against Columbia in the afternoon.
Overall, the Navy women’s rowing team demonstrated their resilience and competitive spirit at the Doc Hosea Invite, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead. With a strong work ethic and determination to improve, the Mids are poised for success in future competitions.
