Burley Holds off Jerome with 4-3 Victory in Game One
In a thrilling baseball matchup between Burley and Jerome, the Burley Spartans emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over the Jerome Tigers in the first game of their doubleheader.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Bobcats taking a 2-0 lead after four innings. Jacoby Roe played a crucial role for Burley, driving in runs with a single and a sacrifice fly. However, Jerome made a late push in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring three runs to tie the game. Wesley Prestwich’s three-run home run brought the Tigers back into contention.
But it was Burley who had the last laugh, as they scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning to secure the victory. Jacoby Roe led the way for the Spartans with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including two RBIs. Caleb Jones was the standout performer for Jerome with two hits.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Jerome managed to edge out Burley with a 1-0 win. Sawyer Tilley’s RBI single in the fourth inning proved to be the difference, as he also put on a stellar pitching performance, allowing just five hits and striking out seven.
With the split in the doubleheader, Burley and Jerome now look ahead to their upcoming games. Jerome, with a 7-8 overall record, will host Wood River, while Burley, with a 6-14 overall record, will host Canyon Ridge in their next matchups.
