Longtime Golf Channel “Big Break” host Stephanie Sparks has passed away at the age of 50, leaving behind a legacy of passion for the game and dedication to the sport.
Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, Sparks was a standout collegiate golfer at Duke University, where she earned All-American honors. She continued her success in the amateur ranks, winning prestigious events such as the North and South Women’s Amateur and the Women’s Western Amateur.
Despite battling injuries during her brief professional career, Sparks made a lasting impact on the golf world. She represented the U.S. on the Curtis Cup team and even had a role in the 2004 movie “Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius.”
In addition to her work on the “Big Break” reality series, Sparks hosted the “Golf with Style” series on Golf Channel and “Playing Lessons with the Pros.” She was known for her on-camera reporting at tournaments and her insightful player diaries for Golfweek.
Tom Abbott, who worked alongside Sparks on the “Big Break” series, praised her work ethic and understanding of the challenges faced by contestants. “She knew how tough it was,” Abbott said.
Off the course, Sparks was a strong advocate for hospice care and supported various charitable organizations, including Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation and the Barber Fund in Orlando.
