Florida Gators Gymnastics Advances to NCAA Championship Meet for 20th Time
The No. 4 Florida Gators gymnastics team put on a stellar performance in Thursday night’s NCAA semifinal, securing a second-place finish behind No. 5 Utah. With this impressive showing, the Gators have punched their ticket to Saturday’s NCAA Championship meet for the 20th time, aiming to claim their fourth national title.
In a thrilling semifinal showdown, the Gators shocked the competition by taking down two-time national champion Oklahoma Sooners. Ultimately, Utah emerged victorious with a score of 197.9375, while Florida closely followed as the runner-up with a score of 197.8750. Oklahoma settled for third place with a score of 196.5875, and Alabama finished in fourth with a score of 195.4125.
The Gators’ semifinal performance marked the fifth-highest score in program history at the NCAA Championships, setting the stage for a potential championship title win, their first since 2015.
During Thursday’s meet, the Gators showcased their talent across all events, with standout performances from junior Leanne Wong, freshman Daniela Ferris, and Sloane Blakely, among others. Wong’s exceptional performance on the vault and uneven bars helped propel the Gators to their impressive finish.
Notably, Wong shared the all-around title with Oregon State’s Jade Carey and secured the NCAA uneven bars title, marking the sixth such title for the Gators since 2013.
Looking ahead, the Gators will face stiff competition from Utah, LSU, and California in the National Championship on Saturday.
