Mercedes’ Lack of Pace in 2024 Season Disappoints Team and Fans
Mercedes’ poor start to the 2024 Formula 1 season has been a cause for concern for the team and fans alike. With the Silver Arrows struggling for pace on track and Lewis Hamilton enduring his worst ever start to a season, former F1 driver Karun Chandhok has highlighted one aspect that has disappointed the team the most.
Chandhok, now a pundit for Sky Sports, pointed out that Mercedes will be most disappointed by their lack of pace so far this season. Despite the DNFs they have sustained, it is the overall lack of competitiveness that has been a major concern for the team.
“At no point did they look like being a close challenger to Ferrari in the race,” Chandhok said. “For a team that finished second in the championship last year, it’s looking tricky for them to repeat that this year.”
Team principal Toto Wolff now faces the challenge of extracting more pace from their W15 car and finding a capable second driver for next year. With Hamilton struggling and currently sitting ninth in the drivers’ championship, the pressure is on for Mercedes to turn their season around.
The team will be hoping that their new car has a high development potential across the season as they aim to progress back up the grid. However, if they fail to do so, they could find themselves slipping down the constructors’ standings and costing them vital prize money.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Mercedes to see if they can overcome their early struggles and challenge for the top positions once again. The stakes are high for the German manufacturer, and the pressure is on to deliver results in the remaining races of the season.
