Top Golf Stars Withdraw from 2024 Olympics in Paris: Koepka, Hatton, Oosthuizen, Pieters, Scott, and Siem Opt Out
The 2024 Olympics in Paris may be missing some big names in the golf world, as Brooks Koepka, Tyrrell Hatton, Louis Oosthuizen, Thomas Pieters, Adam Scott, and Marcel Siem have reportedly withdrawn from competing in the prestigious event.
According to reports from Spanish outlet ElPeriodiGolf, the LIV Golf participants have all requested to be left out of the Olympics, with reasons for their decisions not yet disclosed. Koepka, currently ranked 31st in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), may have opted out due to his chances of qualifying for Team USA. With only the top two players automatically selected, Koepka finds himself on the outside looking in.
Meanwhile, Hatton, the 16th-ranked golfer in the world, could have a shot at qualifying, with only two other Brits ahead of him in the rankings. Other LIV Golf players eligible to qualify for Paris include Jon Rahm, Adrian Meronk, Joaquin Niemann, and more.
On the other hand, Adam Scott, the Australian golfer, has always been critical of golf in the Olympics, having declined opportunities to represent his country in both Rio and Tokyo. In 2015, Scott expressed his disdain for golf’s inclusion in the Olympics, stating that the four majors are the pinnacle of the sport and that golf doesn’t need to be in the Olympics.
As the Olympics draw closer, the golf world will be watching to see who ultimately competes in Paris and who decides to sit out the prestigious event. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
