Navy Lightweight Crew Set to Compete for Trophies Against Harvard and Georgetown

Navy Lightweight Crew Set for Weekend Trophy Competitions

The No. 5 Navy lightweight crew program is gearing up for an action-packed weekend as they prepare to face off against No. 1 Harvard on Saturday and No. 6 Georgetown on Sunday. Both the Haines and the Paulovich team points trophies will be up for grabs as the Mids look to make their mark in these highly anticipated matchups.

The racing will kick off at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday on the Severn River, with the third varsity eight contest leading the way. This will be followed by the second varsity eight crews battling it out at 7:50 a.m. before the first varsities take to the water at 8:10 a.m. to compete for the coveted trophies.

In their most recent matchup against Harvard, the Mids fell short as the Crimson emerged victorious in all three races. However, Navy will be looking to turn the tables this weekend and reclaim the Haines Trophy, named after Bert Haines, the former Harvard lightweight head coach.

On Sunday, the Mids will face off against Georgetown for the Forster Cup, with Navy looking to extend their winning streak in this competition. The Forster Cup is awarded annually to the winner of the Georgetown/Navy first varsity eight race, and Navy will be aiming to secure their ninth consecutive victory in this event.

With so much at stake and the rivalry between these top programs heating up, fans can expect some thrilling racing action over the weekend. Make sure to catch all the excitement as Navy lightweight crew looks to make a statement against their tough opponents.
