Navy Heavyweight Rowing Team Set to Compete in Three-Team Contest at Onondaga Lake
The No. 11 Navy heavyweight rowing team is gearing up for a thrilling three-team contest at Onondaga Lake this Saturday morning, facing off against the No. 7 Syracuse Orange and the 14th-ranked Cornell Big Red. The Mids, with a record of 4-1, will be looking to continue their strong season as they compete for the Goes Trophy and Stagg Team Points Cup.
The competition, set to start at 8 a.m., will feature a five-race slate that will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra and ESPN Plus. Fans can tune in to watch the action unfold as the teams battle it out on the water.
In their most recent matchup on April 15, the Navy heavyweight rowing team had a solid showing against Syracuse and Cornell, recording two wins and three runner-up results. The first varsity eight crews will kick off the action at 8 a.m., with the winner taking home the Goes Trophy. The excitement will continue with races featuring the second, third, and fourth varsity eight crews, culminating in a fifth varsity four race at 9:20 a.m.
The Goes Trophy, dating back to 1955, is presented to the winner of the heavyweight varsity race between Navy, Cornell, and Syracuse. Navy holds a slim edge in the all-time standings with 27 wins, followed closely by Cornell with 25 wins and Syracuse with 14 wins.
The Stagg Cup will also be up for grabs, awarded to the program that scores the most points in the combined action between the V8, 2V8, and 3V8 boats. With both prestigious trophies on the line, the competition is sure to be fierce as the teams battle it out on the water.
