Florida Gators Gymnastics Primed for NCAA Championship Final Four Battle
The Florida Gators Gymnastics team is on the brink of making history as they head into the NCAA Championship Final Four with the opportunity to secure their first national championship team victory since 2015. After an impressive runner-up performance in the NCAA Semifinals, where they posted the fifth-highest score in NCAA Championship history with a 197.8750, the Gators are ready to take on the best in the nation.
Junior Leanne Wong led the way for the Gators with a stellar performance on the floor, scoring a team-high 9.9125. Wong’s dominance continued in the vault rotation, where she recorded a perfect stick and a score of 9.9375, leading all competitors in the evening semifinal. Senior Ellie Lazzari also shined on vault, earning a second-place finish with a collegiate-best score of 9.925.
Wong’s success extended to the uneven bars, where she shared the winning bars mark with a score of 9.965. With her impressive performance, Wong earned four All-American honors in vault, floor, bars, and the all-around, matching the fourth highest all-around score in program history with a 39.70.
Freshman Anya Pilgrim also made a significant impact, leading all freshmen in the 2024 NCAA Championships with a score of 39.5375 in the all-around. With a total of nine All-American honors earned by four Gators, the team has secured a spot in the NCAA Championships team final, where they will compete against LSU, Utah, and California for the national title.
Head coach Jenny Rowland expressed her gratitude for the team’s hard work and dedication, as they now prepare to battle for the championship title. The Gators will open the team final on the vault and will look to make their mark in gymnastics history on Saturday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
