Two-time World Champion Remco Evenepoel on Track for Racing Comeback in June
Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel is on track to make a comeback after a crash in Spain left him with a broken collar bone and shoulder blade. The two-time world champion is aiming to return to racing in June, ahead of the Tour de France and the Paris Olympics.
Evenepoel, who needed surgery following the crash in the Tour of Basque Country, is set to train at high altitude before making his comeback at either the Critérium du Dauphiné in France or the Tour de Suisse. He is also eyeing a debut at the Tour de France on June 29, followed by the Olympic events in Paris in July and August.
“It’s going to be something special. Especially the Tour,” Evenepoel said in an interview with his team Soudal–Quick-Step. “It makes it a bit easier to do Tour-Olympics because it’s in the same country, not too far like it was three years ago to go to Tokyo. That was more difficult for a lot of guys.”
Despite the setback, Evenepoel remains optimistic about his recovery and is grateful for the time off to spend with his family. The injury, he says, came at a good time and allowed him to rest and recuperate.
The cycling world is eagerly awaiting Evenepoel’s return to competition, as he looks to add to his impressive list of achievements on the road. With the Tour de France and the Paris Olympics on the horizon, the Belgian star is determined to make a strong comeback and continue his winning ways.
