The Women’s Tour of Britain Returns to Wales in 2024
The Women’s Tour of Britain is set to make a triumphant return to Wales this year, much to the delight of British cycling fans. The event, now known as the Tour of Britain Women, will kick off on June 6th with the first two stages taking place in Wales.
British cyclist Lizzie Deignan expressed her gratitude for the return of the race, stating that it was a feat achieved “against the odds.” The 2024 race will start in Welshpool and finish in Llandudno on the first day, showcasing the beautiful landscapes of Wales to the world.
After a hiatus in 2023 due to funding issues, the Tour of Britain Women is back with a revamped format and renewed excitement. The world’s top female riders and teams will compete through Wrexham on day two before moving on to Warrington and concluding in Greater Manchester on June 9th.
The four stages of the race will offer varying terrain and challenges for the riders, with climbs in the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley on day two and a flatter route in Warrington on day three. The final day will see riders departing from the National Cycling Centre in Leigh, ending what promises to be an exhilarating and competitive tour.
Tour of Britain Women race director Rod Ellingworth praised the effort put into organizing the event, highlighting the competitive routes and the expected support from enthusiastic crowds along the roadside.
