Jorja Mouat Overcomes Injury to Represent New Zealand at Flag Football World Championships
Despite facing a dislocated ankle and a broken tibula and fibula, Te Puke’s Jorja Mouat has been selected to represent New Zealand at the upcoming IFAF World Flag Football Championships in Finland. The talented athlete, who is a member of the Tauranga City Tridents American Football Club, has shown incredible resilience and determination to pursue her sporting career.
Mouat, who initially had reservations about playing no-contact flag football, found her passion for the sport after her injury in 2020. With a background in track and field and rugby, she never imagined herself excelling in flag football. However, after joining the Tauranga Tridents in 2022, she quickly rose through the ranks and earned a spot on the national team.
The upcoming world championships in Finland hold special significance for Mouat, who sees it as a stepping stone towards achieving her ultimate dream of participating in the Olympics. With flag football set to be included in the 2028 Olympics, Mouat is determined to make a name for herself in the sport.
