“Introducing the Jamie Henry Memorial Award for Volunteer of the Year at the Annual Esso Awards”

The annual Esso Awards put on by Kindersley Minor Hockey were a night to remember, with the introduction of a special new award that left many in tears. The Jamie Henry Memorial Award for Volunteer of the Year was presented for the first time, honoring the memory of a beloved member of the community.

Jamie Henry, a dedicated hockey mom and volunteer, was known for her unwavering support of her sons and the sport they loved. Her efforts extended beyond the rink, as she played a key role in fundraising for the construction of the Kindersley Aquatic Centre. Despite facing a battle with breast cancer, Jamie’s commitment to her family and community never wavered.

In 2024, the Henry family created the Volunteer of the Year award to honor Jamie’s legacy. This year’s recipient, Elaine Epp, was described as the epitome of a dedicated volunteer by Kindersley Minor Hockey President Ethan Wigley. Epp’s long list of contributions to the organization, including serving as the U18 coordinator and league commissioner, made her a deserving winner of the inaugural award.

Epp’s selfless dedication to the organization was further highlighted when she took a day off just to assist with organizing the awards night. Her humility and commitment to helping others left an indelible mark on the community, earning her the admiration of her peers and the recognition she truly deserved.

The emotional presentation of the award by the Henry family added an extra layer of significance to the night, solidifying the Jamie Henry Memorial Award as a cherished tradition for years to come. As the community continues to honor volunteers like Elaine Epp, Jamie’s spirit of selflessness and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
