Jersey’s Team Jets facing promotion setback due to lack of suitable courts, says head coach
Former England captain Serena Kersten, now the head coach of Jersey’s Team Jets, has raised concerns about the team’s potential promotion to National Premier League Three due to a lack of suitable courts.
With promotion play-offs looming this weekend, Kersten highlighted the challenges the team faces in meeting the criteria for eligibility. She emphasized the importance of having the right facilities to host games and provide a suitable playing surface.
“We don’t necessarily have a performance court yet,” Kersten explained. “It’s a big problem for us, especially considering the success and popularity of netball on the island.”
Team Jets previously played at Les Ormes, but their agreement ended in March, leaving elite players struggling to find adequate training venues. Kersten expressed frustration at the limited access to performance courts, noting that the team had only secured one hour of court time during a crucial preparation week.
As a former Commonwealth Games gold medalist with England, Kersten is determined to advocate for improved facilities for high-level netball in Jersey. She has engaged in discussions with government officials and plans to continue pushing for better resources for the team.
The lack of suitable courts poses a significant challenge for Team Jets as they strive for promotion to National Premier League Three. Kersten’s efforts to address this issue highlight the importance of adequate facilities in supporting the growth and success of netball on the island.
