Former Indian Women’s Hockey Captain Pritam Rani Siwach Confident in Men’s Team’s Ability for Paris Olympics
Former Indian women’s hockey captain Pritam Rani Siwach is confident in the abilities of the Indian men’s team to shine at the upcoming Paris Olympics. With India ending a 41-year medal drought by clinching a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, Siwach believes that the current team has the potential to secure victories, despite being placed in a tough pool alongside strong contenders.
“The team has some really talented players who have the capabilities of winning matches,” Siwach stated in a recent Hockey India release. “Yes, the pool in which India is placed is a bit tricky, but I am confident that the team will pass this test and hopefully change the color of the medal to gold.”
Siwach’s optimism for the Indian team’s success is high as their campaign kicks off on July 27 against New Zealand. She also emphasized the importance of the upcoming National Women’s Hockey League, which will serve as a platform for young players to showcase their skills and potentially earn a spot in the national team.
“It will provide an opportunity for young players to showcase their skills and techniques and make a name for themselves, thus creating their own pathway to the National team going forward,” Siwach explained. “Through this, the players will also get to know what areas they need to work on and how they can improve their game.”
The league will feature the top eight teams from the recent Hockey India Senior Women National Championship, offering valuable insights for coaches to refine the players’ games. With the league set to commence in Ranchi from April 30 to May 9, the stage is set for the next generation of hockey stars to shine and potentially make their mark on the international stage.
