Arkansas Gymnastics Team to Compete with Olympic Legends at NCAA Championships
The Arkansas Razorbacks are set to compete in the NCAA Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, and they will have some familiar faces cheering them on from the sidelines. Three members of the legendary U.S. Olympic squad, the Fierce Five, will be at the heights of their new professions during the competition.
Fifth-year Arkansas Coach Jordyn Wieber and her second-year assistant Kyla Ross were both members of the gold medal-winning U.S. team at the 2012 Olympics in London. Their teammate, Aly Raisman, will be calling the action during the semifinal as the Razorbacks take on LSU, California, and Stanford for a spot in the finals.
Wieber, who has led Arkansas to its first NCAA Championships appearance since 2018, expressed her excitement about Raisman joining the announcing team for ESPN. The reunion with her former teammate is sure to be a special moment for both of them.
Ross, the youngest member of the Fierce Five, has also made a successful transition into coaching, using her experience on the balance beam to help lead the Razorbacks to success in the event. The team set a regional record on the beam two weeks ago, showcasing Ross’ impact as a coach.
With three members of the Fierce Five present at the NCAA Championships, Wieber emphasized the significance of women’s sports and the continued success of these athletes in the gymnastics world. The presence of her Olympic teammates adds an extra layer of excitement to the competition.
As the Razorbacks prepare to compete, they will have the support and encouragement of their former Olympic teammates, creating a truly special and memorable experience for all involved.
