In a thrilling day of high school sports action, the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks and Lighthouse Christian Lions showcased their skills on the baseball diamond, while the Gooding boys and Butte County girls dominated the track at the Clover Creek Invitational.
The Riverhawks split a doubleheader with Preston, with Canyon Ridge taking game one 5-2 behind a stellar pitching performance from Connor Capps. Capps tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run while striking out five. The offense was led by Kohyn Barnes and Christian Waitley, who each had two hits in the victory.
However, Preston bounced back in game two, winning 14-3 in five innings. Chandler Roberson and Dre Mora provided the offense for Canyon Ridge, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Preston’s early lead.
Meanwhile, Lighthouse Christian avenged an earlier loss to Vision Charter with a dominant 16-6 victory. Justice Schrader led the Lions with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate, while Camden Boyd and Jack DeJong also had big games. Schrader also shined on the mound, striking out 11 batters in five innings of work.
On the track, the Gooding boys and Butte County girls were the top performers at the Clover Creek Invitational. Samuel Kearl of Gooding was a standout, winning both the 100 and 200 meters, while Max Kelsey dominated the distance events for the Senators.
Overall, it was a day filled with exciting performances and impressive victories for these high school athletes. Make sure to stay tuned for more updates and scores from the world of prep sports.
