Morris Baseball Offense Shines in Victory Over La Salle-Peru

The Morris baseball team showcased their high-powered offense once again in a dominant 12-4 victory over La Salle-Peru in an Interstate 8 Conference game at Huby Sarver Field.

With an average of 8.9 runs per game, Morris wasted no time jumping on the Cavaliers with four runs in the top of the first inning. The offense continued to pile on the runs, scoring in bunches in multiple innings throughout the game.

Head coach Todd Keim was pleased with his team’s performance, stating, “I’m pretty happy with how we hit the ball all game long. Even with outs, we were making some hard outs. Hitting well is what we do most of the time.”

All nine starters contributed to the team’s 14 hits, with each player notching at least one hit in the game. The relentless offense forced La Salle-Peru to use four different pitchers in an attempt to slow down Morris’s scoring barrage.

Pitcher Brett Bounds earned the win for Morris, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings. Merek Klicker closed out the game with two perfect innings, striking out four batters.

Despite a late rally from La Salle-Peru, Morris maintained control of the game and secured the victory. The win improves Morris’s record to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Morris will look to complete the series sweep when they face off against La Salle-Peru once again on Thursday. With their high-powered offense firing on all cylinders, Morris will be a tough team to beat as they continue their quest for a conference title.
