Rising Interest in Women’s Basketball Boosts Attendance at Vancouver Bandits Basketball Camp
The Vancouver Bandits are experiencing a surge in interest for their upcoming Girls & Women in Sports Basketball Camp at the Langley Events Centre, with spots filling up quickly and two sessions already sold out more than a month before the event.
According to Andrew Savory, Vice President of Brand & Communications for the Vancouver Bandits, the camp has seen a steady increase in attendance over the years, from 30 campers in the first year to 80 campers expected this year. The demand for women’s and girls’ basketball programming is on the rise, with local clubs playing a significant role in promoting the sport.
The camp, scheduled for Saturday, May 25, will feature skill development, drills, coaching from university and national team-level athletes, and tickets to the Bandits game against Scarborough Shooting Stars the following day. Campers will also have the opportunity to attend a pre-game speakers panel on girls and women in sports.
Savory emphasized the importance of creating a supportive and inspiring environment for young female basketball players to advance their skills and pursue their dreams in the sport. The recent success of Canadian players in the WNBA draft, including Aaliyah Edwards being selected sixth overall, highlights the growing prominence of women’s basketball.
For those interested in participating in the camp, registration information can be found on the Vancouver Bandits website. The organization is dedicated to promoting and supporting women’s basketball, and events like the Girls & Women in Sports Basketball Camp play a crucial role in fostering the next generation of female athletes.
