Texas Second Eight Named Big 12 Boat of the Week
The Texas Rowing program continues to make waves in the collegiate rowing world, as the Second Eight was named the Big 12 Boat of the Week for the second consecutive week. The Longhorns’ impressive performance at No. 9 Michigan earned them the prestigious conference honor, solidifying their status as a powerhouse in the sport.
Led by sophomore coxswain Amy Werner, the Texas II Eight put on a dominant display against the Wolverines, crossing the finish line in 6:22.30 and leaving their opponents in their wake. Despite challenging conditions on the 2,000-meter course, including rough waters and a 15-mph tailwind, the Longhorns’ young crew of mostly underclassmen rose to the occasion and secured a convincing victory.
This latest accolade adds to Texas’ growing list of achievements this season, including a previous Big 12 Boat of the Week award for the First Eight after a successful showing at the San Diego Crew Classic. With momentum on their side, the Longhorns are poised to continue their winning ways as they prepare to host the Longhorn Invite on April 27.
The upcoming regatta will feature powerhouse programs such as defending NCAA Champion Stanford, ACC powerhouse Virginia, and Big Ten stalwart Ohio State. With such stiff competition on the horizon, Texas will have the opportunity to test their mettle against some of the best teams in the nation and further solidify their position as a top contender in collegiate rowing.
As the Longhorns gear up for the Longhorn Invite, fans can expect thrilling races and fierce competition as Texas looks to build on their recent success and make a statement on their home turf. Stay tuned for more updates on the Texas Rowing program as they continue their quest for excellence on the water.
