Navigating the Fantasy Baseball Trade Market: Pitchers to Buy Low, Buy High, Sell Low, and Sell High

As we approach the midpoint of the fantasy baseball season, managers are starting to feel the pressure to make moves to improve their teams. With only 12% of the full schedule completed, it’s important to remember that one good or bad week can completely change the outlook on any player. This week, the focus is on pitchers who may be undervalued or overvalued in trade talks.

For those looking to buy low, Seattle Mariners’ Luis Castillo is a prime target. Despite a rough start to the season with four losses and inflated ratios, Castillo’s underlying stats suggest he is due for a turnaround. With a strong strikeout-to-walk ratio and a solid xFIP, Castillo is a durable ace worth acquiring at a discount.

Another buy-low candidate is Houston Astros’ Josh Hader. Despite a low saves total in April, Hader remains one of the top relievers in baseball. With a poor record and a blown save, now is the time to pounce on Hader for a reliever with a higher saves total but less overall value.

On the flip side, Washington Nationals’ Kyle Finnegan is a buy-high candidate for those in need of saves. While Finnegan may not be the most talented closer, saves are saves, and he is currently getting the job done for the Nationals.

For those looking to sell low, Cleveland Guardians’ Triston McKenzie is a prime candidate. With decreased velocity and struggles to put batters away, McKenzie’s fantasy impact has taken a hit. It may be wise to trade him for a player with more long-term value.

Lastly, St. Louis Cardinals’ Ryan Helsley and Philadelphia Phillies’ Aaron Nola are sell-high candidates. Helsley’s early success may not be sustainable, and Nola’s underlying stats suggest his performance could decline. Take advantage of their current value and explore trade options to improve your team for the long haul.
