Draycote Water Sailing Club Members Shine at Rugby Sports Awards 2023
The Draycote Water Sailing Club members have once again proven their excellence in the world of sports, as they dominated the Rugby Sports Awards 2023 with an impressive display of talent and skill.
The prestigious event, held in the Warwickshire town of Rugby, saw five members of the DWSC taking home the Rugby Excellence in Sport Awards, a remarkable feat that outshone all other clubs in attendance. Ben Angell, Freddie Sunderland, Kat Gunn, Jess Powell, and Lola Huett were the deserving winners in their respective categories, showcasing the club’s depth of talent across various disciplines.
In particular, Jess Powell stood out as she not only clinched an award for her outstanding performance but also added the Rugby Young Sportsperson of the Year Award to her growing list of accolades. Despite being unable to attend the ceremony due to her participation in the ILCA 4 European Championships in Slovenia, Powell’s achievements were recognized and celebrated by the attendees.
The evening was made even more special with the presence of Ruqsana Begum, the awards’ special guest, whose inspiring talk resonated with the audience. DWSC President, Jeremy Atkins, accepted Powell’s award on her behalf, highlighting the club’s strong sense of camaraderie and support for its members.
While the club narrowly missed out on winning the Rugby Club of the Year award, the overall success and recognition garnered at the event solidified DWSC’s reputation as a powerhouse in the world of sailing and sports in general. Head Coach Steve Irish’s nomination for Coach of the Year further underscored the club’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
Overall, the Rugby Sports Awards 2023 was a night to remember for the Draycote Water Sailing Club, showcasing their talent, dedication, and passion for sports in a truly remarkable fashion.
