District 4-4A Baseball Recap: West Plains and Canyon Keep Pace
In a thrilling week of high school baseball action, Juylen Aguilera of West Plains delivered a dominant pitching performance against Pampa in a District 4-4A game on Friday. Aguilera led his team to a resounding 16-4 victory in a five-inning mercy rule win.
The game showcased the strength of West Plains, who have been on a tear in district play despite a couple of close losses earlier in the season. Aguilera’s pitching prowess was on full display as he struck out six batters and allowed only one hit in his three innings on the mound.
Offensively, Bradley Cepeda and Garrett Hamilton were standout performers for West Plains. Cepeda went 4-for-4 at the plate, falling just short of hitting for the cycle. Hamilton sealed the victory with a grand slam in the second inning, propelling his team to an early lead they never relinquished.
Meanwhile, in other District 4-4A action, Canyon and Randall continued their winning ways to maintain their positions near the top of the standings. Canyon secured a 5-0 victory over Dumas, while Randall shut out Borger 5-0.
With the first half of district play coming to a close, the race for the postseason is heating up. West Plains, Canyon, and Randall are all poised to make strong runs as they look to secure playoff berths.
Across other districts, teams like Amarillo High, Tascosa, and Bushland also notched impressive wins to bolster their playoff hopes. The high school baseball season is in full swing, and the competition is fierce as teams battle for supremacy on the diamond.
