Michael Gilbert, Simpson’s former agent, along with two other individuals who were acquaintances of Al Cowlings, the driver of the vehicle during the chase, have decided to part ways with the iconic car.
The Bronco gained notoriety in 1994 when Simpson, a former American football legend, fled from L.A. and hid in the backseat of the vehicle. The slow-speed chase was broadcast live and captivated millions of viewers. Despite the negative publicity surrounding the car, the most recent bid for the Bronco was a staggering $750,000, with owners hoping to fetch at least $1.5 million.
Michael Gilbert revealed, “Before O.J. passed, we had always thought this was going to be the year we were going to sell because it’s the 30th anniversary. Who knows if we are all going to be around for the 35th or the 40th?” The decision to sell the Bronco comes as a significant milestone in the vehicle’s history.
The Ford Bronco’s image may have been tarnished by the events of that fateful day, leading to its discontinuation two years later. However, the car has become an iconic symbol in American culture, forever linked to the infamous OJ Simpson car chase. The Bronco is currently housed at a Tennessee crime museum, alongside other historically significant vehicles, such as the Volkswagen Beetle driven by serial killer Ted Bundy.
