Lewis Hamilton Excited for Potential F1-MotoGP Joint Race Weekends
Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has expressed his excitement at the prospect of MotoGP joining the Formula 1 race weekends in the future. This comes after F1 owners, Liberty Media, purchased MotoGP’s parent company earlier this month, adding the popular motorcycle racing series to their portfolio.
Hamilton, who is a fan of MotoGP and has even swapped machinery with legendary rider Valentino Rossi in the past, sees the potential for an “epic” schedule of motorsport action if both series were to share the billing on some race weekends. While there are currently no immediate plans for joint race weekends, Dorna sporting director Carlos Ezpeleta has not ruled out the possibility for the medium-term future.
The logistical and financial challenges of organizing such events are acknowledged, with Ezpeleta highlighting the differences in fan bases, sponsors, and TV coverage between the two series. However, the idea of hosting joint race weekends at circuits that already host both championships remains a possibility.
Hamilton’s enthusiasm for the idea is evident as he commends Liberty Media for their work in enhancing the value of Formula 1 since taking over in 2017. The British driver even joked about the possibility of racing in both MotoGP and Formula 1 on the same weekend, although he admitted that it would be a logistical challenge.
While a shared F1-MotoGP race weekend may not be on the immediate horizon, the potential for collaboration between the two premier motorsport series is an exciting prospect for fans of both disciplines. As Liberty Media continues to explore opportunities to grow and enhance the motorsport experience, the idea of seeing F1 and MotoGP on the same weekend could become a reality in the future.
