Dartmouth Women’s Rowing Team Excels at Ivy Invite, Second Varsity Four Beats Penn and Cornell
The Dartmouth women’s rowing team showcased their strength and determination at the Ivy Invite over the weekend, with impressive performances across the board. The second varsity four stood out as they beat both Penn and Cornell, solidifying their dominance over Ivy League opponents after victories against Columbia and Princeton on Friday.
Head coach John Graves expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “This regatta was a really good check-in for us to see where we stack up against Ivy League teams and some out-of-conference teams. It was a great opportunity for us to see where we stand and work towards closing the gap as we move towards Ivy championships in May.”
The varsity eight finished second out of three crews on Saturday, posting a time of 6:55.345, only behind Penn. The second varsity four and varsity four also delivered outstanding performances, with the former finishing more than 20 seconds ahead of Penn and the latter coming within six seconds of the top spot.
Graves highlighted the strength of the Ivy League competition, noting that the team’s faster times compared to USC in three out of four boats was a positive sign of progress. The Big Green will look to build on this success as they prepare to host Fordham, Rhode Island, and UMass at Lake Morey in Vermont next Saturday.
Overall, Dartmouth’s performance at the Ivy Invite was a testament to their hard work and dedication, setting a high standard for the team as they continue to strive for success in the upcoming Ivy League championships.
