Regatta Sailing Excitement Peaks on Day Two of Sail Port Stephens Passage Series
The second day of the Sail Port Stephens Passage Series proved to be a thrilling and memorable event for the record fleet of sailors who took to the water on Tuesday. The Commodores Cup and Port Stephens Trophy provided the perfect backdrop for some intense competition as the boats weaved their way through the stunning offshore islands of Port Stephens.
Leading the pack in division 1 was Virago, a RP 52 owned by Robert Kelly from the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. Virago not only claimed line honours but also secured handicap honours, making it a double victory for the team. Despite Kelly being sidelined with a knee injury, tactician Andrew Parkes described the race as a “glamour day” filled with tactical challenges and exciting moments.
In division 2, Michael Stuart’s C&C30 One Design Let’s Go dominated the competition, taking home double honours. Division 3 saw Absolut, an Archambault A35, emerge victorious, while Split, a Salona 35, triumphed in division 4 thanks to slick crew work and smart decision-making.
The Non Spinnaker Division saw MWF-Joy and Allsail Leeward battling it out for the top spots once again, with Elara making a significant jump up the leaderboard from the previous day.
With similar light conditions and sunshine forecasted for day three, sailors can look forward to another day of perfect sailing conditions at Sail Port Stephens. Stay tuned for more updates and results as the competition heats up in this exciting regatta event.
