Paris 2024 Chief Tony Estanguet Assures Unprecedented Security Measures for Olympics
Paris 2024 chief Tony Estanguet has assured the public that the upcoming Olympics will be protected by an “unprecedented” security operation, with preparations “in good shape” just 100 days before the Games begin.
In an interview with BBC Sport, Estanguet expressed his satisfaction with the current state of preparations, stating, “My message is you can have confidence with this event.” He emphasized that security is the top priority for the organizers, especially considering the magnitude of the event as the biggest ever organized in France.
The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics is set to be a grand spectacle, with more than 10,000 athletes expected to sail along a 6km stretch of the Seine on 160 barges. However, concerns have been raised about the security risks, prompting French President Emmanuel Macron to suggest relocating the ceremony to a safer location if necessary.
Despite the potential threats, Estanguet remains optimistic about the event, stating, “It’s the first time ever the objective is to have the maximum of people enjoying this moment. It’s five times more than what happened in a stadium before…So it’s a great opportunity.”
With growing concerns over security risks, including threats from Islamist militants, Estanguet emphasized the importance of remaining calm and focused on delivering a safe and successful event. He highlighted the strong cooperation with other countries to ensure a secure environment during the Games.
As the countdown to the Paris Olympics continues, Estanguet’s reassurances and confidence in the security measures in place provide a sense of assurance for athletes, officials, and spectators alike. The world eagerly awaits the showcase of the best of France at the upcoming Games.
