Glenn Maxwell takes indefinite break from cricket after struggling in IPL

Glenn Maxwell, the Australian cricket star who helped his team win the Cricket World Cup in November, has made a surprising announcement. The 35-year-old has decided to take an indefinite break from the sport to focus on his mental and physical health.

Maxwell, who is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League, has been struggling with his form, scoring just 32 runs in his first six games. The Challengers are at the bottom of the table, and Maxwell’s decision to step away from the game has come as a shock to his teammates.

Despite his recent struggles, Maxwell had been in excellent form leading up to the tournament. However, he felt that taking a break was necessary to avoid digging himself into a deeper hole. He expressed his frustration at not being able to contribute positively with the bat and felt it was time to give someone else an opportunity to shine.

Maxwell has not ruled out returning for RCB’s final six games of the season but acknowledged that he needed to take a step back to reset and refocus. He admitted that he had been trying too hard and had forgotten the basics of the game in his quest for runs.

The talented all-rounder remains hopeful that a break will help him rediscover his form in time for the T20 World Cup in June. Maxwell’s decision to prioritize his well-being is a reminder of the importance of mental health in professional sports and serves as a brave example for others facing similar challenges.
