Track Cycling Legend Kristina Vogel Faces Life-Threatening Emergency Six Years After Accident

Track cycling legend Kristina Vogel faced another life-threatening situation six years after her serious accident that left her paralyzed. The double Olympic champion recently suffered a pulmonary embolism, leading to an emergency surgery to remove numerous blood clots from her lungs.

Vogel, 33, recounted feeling ill with a high pulse and shortness of breath before her partner, Michael Seidenbecher, insisted on taking her to the hospital. Despite initially refusing, Vogel eventually underwent the life-saving operation at the same Berlin hospital where she was treated after her 2018 training accident.

During the surgery, Vogel was conscious and watched as the thrombi were removed, describing them as looking like “fat earthworms.” Thankfully, she immediately felt better after the procedure, acknowledging that another day at home could have been fatal.

After being moved from the intensive care unit to a normal ward, Vogel will remain in the hospital for further observation. While initial assessments suggest her paralysis was not the cause of the pulmonary embolism, additional investigations will be conducted to determine the underlying issue.

Despite the frightening ordeal, Vogel remains positive, sharing a photo from her hospital bed with a smile and a thumbs up. She expressed gratitude to the hospital staff for saving her life once again and plans to stay in the hospital until the cause of her recent health scare is identified.

As the track cycling community rallies around Vogel, the champion athlete is focused on recovering and regaining her strength, determined to overcome yet another obstacle in her remarkable journey.
