Kris Srikkanth criticizes RCB’s bowling performance in record-breaking IPL 2024 match
Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth did not hold back in expressing his disappointment with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s bowling performance in their recent IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match, which took place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, saw RCB suffer their sixth defeat in seven games after SRH posted a record-breaking total of 287/3, surpassing their previous high score of 277 against Mumbai Indians earlier in the season.
Srikkanth criticized RCB’s bowling lineup and went as far as suggesting that they play with 11 batters, especially when playing at the high-scoring ground in Bengaluru. He even joked that Virat Kohli, the RCB captain, could have bowled better than some of the bowlers who conceded a whopping 287 runs in the match.
The pace bowlers Reece Topley, Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson, and Vijaykumar Vyshak were hit for 137 runs off ten overs, while off-spinner Will Jacks conceded 32 runs in his three overs. Srikkanth pointed out that RCB’s decision to enter the match without a specialist spinner and leaving Mohammad Siraj on the bench left their bowling lineup looking inexperienced.
The match itself was a six-hitting fest, with a total of 38 sixes being hit. Sunrisers Hyderabad set a new record with 22 sixes, while RCB managed to hit 16 of their own. Sunrisers’ batting performance was particularly impressive, with 41 boundaries hit in the innings, the second-highest in IPL history.
Srikkanth’s comments have sparked a debate among fans and experts alike, with many questioning RCB’s bowling strategy and calling for changes to be made in order to improve their performance in the remainder of the IPL 2024 season.
