Navy Sailing Team Competes in Three Regattas, Sailor Earns All-Conference Honors
The Navy intercollegiate sailing team had a jam-packed weekend, participating in three regattas on the road and showcasing their skills on the water. The team’s efforts were highlighted by one sailor who picked up all-conference honors for their outstanding performance.
In the MAISA Women’s Team Race Championship in St. Mary’s City, Md., Navy faced tough competition from the top eight teams in the Mid-Atlantic. Despite challenging conditions with strong winds on Saturday, the Midshipmen managed to finish fifth overall, with skippers Evie Blauvelt, Aubin Hattendorf, and Ava Farley leading the charge.
Evie Blauvelt stood out among her peers and was named First-Team All-MAISA, earning recognition as a finalist for MASIA Women’s Sailor of the Year for the second consecutive year. Her exceptional skills and leadership on the water were instrumental in Navy’s success at the championship event.
The team also competed in the Thompson Trophy Team Race in New London, Conn., where they faced wild conditions and tough competition. Despite the challenges, Navy finished fourth overall, showcasing their resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
In the Truxtun Umsted regatta at SUNY Maritime in the Bronx, N.Y., Navy put on a strong performance, finishing third out of 14 teams. Senior Trenton Shaw and freshman Fiona Cullen led the charge in the “A” division, while freshmen Teddy Martin and Eva Ottenbreit impressed in the “B” division.
Overall, Navy’s sailing team demonstrated their skill, teamwork, and competitive spirit throughout the weekend’s events. With upcoming competitions on the horizon, including the America Trophy and the George Washington Invitational, the Midshipmen are poised to continue their success on the water.
