Jon Rahm Opens Up About Frosty Reception at The Masters After LIV Defection
Jon Rahm, the 2023 Masters champion, faced a chilly reception from some of his former PGA Tour colleagues during his return to Augusta National this past week. The Spanish golfer, who made headlines when he joined the LIV Golf league earlier this year, revealed that some people he was once cordial with didn’t even look him in the eyes.
In an interview with Golf Channel Latin America, Rahm admitted that he expected the mixed reactions from his peers. “Some did. I expected it,” he said. “And then, there was someone else who I expected to be a little tougher… and one of them hugged me.”
Despite the somewhat frosty reception, Rahm remained unfazed, stating, “If someone changes their opinion of me, it is more their problem than mine. I am not worried.” He added, “I knew it was going to happen. I didn’t know who.”
On the course, Rahm struggled to find his form, finishing the tournament at nine-over par and tied for 45th place, his worst ever finish at Augusta National. After a one-over first round, he battled the wind on the second day to just make the cut at five-over par. An even par third round was followed by a disappointing four-over round on Sunday.
Despite the challenges on and off the course, Rahm remains focused on his game and is looking ahead to future tournaments. The golf world will be watching to see how he bounces back from this setback and continues to compete at the highest level.
