Breaking Barriers: Morgan Price Makes History in Gymnastics

In a powerful display of “BLACK GIRL MAGIC,” the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships saw three remarkable women of color, Simone Biles, Shilese Jones, and Rebeca Andrade, grace the podium after the all-around competition. Simone Biles, already the most decorated gymnast ever, shared an important message with the world, emphasizing that young girls can achieve anything they set their minds to with hard work and dedication.

Following this iconic moment, Morgan Price, a rising gymnast from Fisk University, made history by clinching the all-around title at the USAG Collegiate Championship. This groundbreaking achievement marked her as the first athlete from a historically black college or university (HBCU) to accomplish such a feat. The 18-year-old, who takes immense pride in her roots and was raised by a single mother, paid a heartfelt tribute to her mom after her historic win.

Morgan Price took center stage as the guest of honor on “CBS Mornings” to share her emotions and influences that shaped her journey. Reflecting on her family’s sports background, Morgan highlighted her father’s baseball career and her mother’s cheerleading past at Vanderbilt University.

When asked about her mother’s impact on her life and career, Morgan expressed her gratitude, saying, “She is very inspiring. She has taught me everything that I know today, and I’m just very thankful for her.” Her mother, Marsha, beamed with pride as she listened to her daughter’s heartfelt words.

Despite her remarkable success, Morgan Price surprised many by revealing that her ultimate goal is not to compete in the Olympics but to win more titles and become an HBCU head gymnastics coach. As she continues her journey, all eyes are on this young star as she aims to leave her mark in history and inspire the next generation of black women in gymnastics.
