Celebrating David Shanahan’s Return to Ireland: A Gaelic Football Experience with Kerry
With an Irish man on the team, it’s only right that the footballers give GAA a go
Excitement is building as the Aer Lingus College Football Classic approaches, and all eyes are on Georgia Tech’s star punter, David Shanahan. Shanahan, the first Irishman to receive a full American football scholarship to play at the college level, is set to return to Irish soil for the game against Florida State in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on August 24th.
To celebrate Shanahan’s upcoming return, Kerry, the proud partner of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, captured a training session where Shanahan introduced his American football teammates to his first sporting love – Gaelic football.
Shanahan, who grew up playing Gaelic football and even played on the Kerry 2017 Minor Panel, put his teammates to the test during their visit to Castleisland. The American footballers, including Gavin Stewart, KJ Wallace, LaMiles Brooks, and Billy Ward, tried their hand at solo kicks and hand passes before facing off in a round of sudden death, with Shanahan fielding shots from the goals.
Despite Shanahan’s best efforts as a GAA taskmaster, he was surprisingly defeated by one of his teammates in a thrilling conclusion to the session.
The players were fueled by quality Irish food and drinks courtesy of Kerry Group, who takes pride in creating sustainable nutrition for the global food and beverage industries.
With over 25,000 international visitors expected to attend the game and millions tuning in to ESPN’s live broadcast, the Aer Lingus College Football Classic promises to be an incredible weekend of sport. Don’t miss out on the action – buy your tickets now!
