Australian long jumper Chris Mitrevski smashes personal best, eyes Olympic podium

Australian athletics is buzzing with excitement as long jumper Chris Mitrevski emerged as a strong contender for an Olympic medal after a stellar performance at the national championships in Adelaide. Mitrevski, 27, soared to a winning jump of 8.32m, securing his ticket to Paris and putting himself in the mix for a podium finish.

His impressive jump would have been enough to clinch a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, where Greek athlete Miltiadis Tentoglou claimed gold with a jump of 8.41m. Reflecting on his achievement, Mitrevski expressed his elation, stating, “I didn’t know what an 8.30 jump felt like because I’ve never done it before, but it felt better than anything I’ve ever done. I just had so much time in the air.”

Having previously set his sights on a medal, Mitrevski’s performance at the national championships has bolstered his confidence and aspirations for the upcoming Games. He joins a talented group of track and field athletes named to Australia’s Olympic team, including former world champion Eleanor Patterson and high jump bronze medalist Nicola Olyslagers.

The Australian team is aiming for greater success in Paris following a record-breaking performance at the world championships in Budapest last year. With a strong contingent of athletes, including world silver medalist Jemima Montag and 800m finalist Peter Bol, the nation is poised for a podium-worthy showing in Paris.

Despite facing setbacks such as injuries, the Australian athletes remain determined and focused on achieving their Olympic dreams. With the support of their fans and the nation behind them, Mitrevski and his teammates are ready to take on the world’s best in pursuit of Olympic glory.
