Kansas State Baseball Falls to Oklahoma in Walk-Off, Looks to Rebound Against Non-Conference Foes

Kansas State baseball faced a tough weekend as they were swept by the Oklahoma Sooners in a three-game series. The Wildcats fought hard in each game but ultimately fell short, losing by scores of 11-4, 12-5, and 8-7.

In the series finale on Sunday, K-State found themselves down 6-0 early on but managed to mount a comeback, tying the game at 6 apiece in the seventh inning. Outfielder Chuck Ingram’s eighth homer of the season in the ninth inning evened the score once again, but the Sooners walked off with a win in the bottom of the ninth.

Head coach Pete Hughes praised his team’s effort, especially highlighting the performances of JJ Slack and Tyson Neighbors out of the bullpen. Despite the heartbreaking loss, Hughes remains optimistic about the team’s future, stating, “We need to play better, and we will.”

In the second game on Saturday, the Wildcats fell behind early and couldn’t recover, ultimately losing 11-4. Owen Boerema took the loss on the mound, moving to 3-3 on the season.

In the series opener on Friday, Oklahoma’s early offensive outburst proved to be too much for K-State to overcome, resulting in a 12-5 loss. Graduate Josh Wintroub struggled on the mound, allowing nine runs in the second inning.

Looking ahead, the Wildcats have a pair of midweek non-conference games before hosting Oklahoma State over the weekend. With a tough stretch of games ahead, K-State will look to bounce back and climb back up the conference standings.
