Durham face innings defeat after follow-on by Warwickshire at Edgbaston

Durham’s Ben Raine fell just short of his career best as Warwickshire dominated on day three of the Vitality County Championship Division One match at Edgbaston.

Warwickshire declared on a massive 698-3, with Davies scoring 256, Yates 191, and Rhodes unbeaten on 178. In response, Durham fought hard with Lees scoring 145 and Raine falling just 10 runs short of his career best with 93. However, they were eventually bowled out for 517, still trailing by 169 runs.

Forced to follow on, Durham faced an uphill battle to avoid an innings defeat. Despite a valiant effort from Raine and Clark, who put on a 122-run partnership for the seventh wicket, Durham fell short and closed on 12-2 in their second innings.

The Bears’ bowlers were relentless, with Yates taking 4-137 and Hannon-Dalby and Barnard also making crucial breakthroughs. Warwickshire’s dominance with the ball left Durham in a precarious position, still needing 169 runs to make the Bears bat again.

With Durham struggling to make an impact, Warwickshire look set to secure a convincing victory in the match. The pressure will be on Durham’s batsmen to show resilience and fight back in the remaining days of the game.

The match at Edgbaston has been a one-sided affair so far, with Warwickshire firmly in control. Can Durham stage a comeback and avoid a heavy defeat? Only time will tell as the action continues in the Vitality County Championship Division One clash.
