Ulster’s Iain Henderson fit to lead in European Challenge Cup quarter-final against Clermont
Ulster Rugby captain Iain Henderson has been declared fit to lead his team in the European Challenge Cup quarter-final clash against ASM Clermont on Saturday. Henderson, who had been a doubt due to a foot injury picked up in the last-16 win against Montpellier, will be a key figure for Ulster as they aim to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
Prop Steven Kitshoff, who has been dealing with an ankle issue since last weekend, has also been included in the squad for the crucial encounter. Ulster, under interim head coach Richie Murphy, are looking to make their first European semi-final appearance since 2021.
In preparation for their fourth consecutive away game, Ulster have made two changes to their starting lineup from the previous match. Mike Lowry returns on the wing after missing out with concussion, while Harry Sheridan comes in for Matty Rea in the back row. Stewart Moore will switch to full-back to accommodate Lowry’s return.
Among the replacements, Ethan McIlroy and Tom Stewart make a comeback after being late omissions last week. Marcus Rea will wear the number 23 jersey in what is once again a 6:2 split for Ulster.
The match promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams fielding strong lineups. ASM Clermont will be led by captain Baptiste Jauneau, while Ulster will rely on the leadership of Henderson to guide them to victory. With referee Christophe Ridley set to officiate the game, fans can expect an intense battle between these two top European sides.
