Orillia Rowing Club Receives Funding to Provide Rowing Day Camp for Local Elementary Students
The Orillia Rowing Club is making waves in the community with the recent announcement of receiving a grant from Rowing Canada Aviron. The $25,670 funding will allow 20 local elementary students aged 11 and up to attend a one-week rowing day camp, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn a new sport and experience the thrill of being out on the water.
Thanks to this grant, these students will not only learn the basics of rowing but also the importance of teamwork in crew rowing. The camp promises to be a fun and active experience for all participants, with the potential for some to continue rowing beyond the camp into September.
In addition to the day camp, the grant will also support the introduction of indoor rowing in elementary schools in the Orillia area. The focus is on encouraging more girls to participate in the sport, while also teaching both girls and boys the proper techniques of rowing on a machine.
The impact of this grant on the Orillia Rowing Club and the community at large is significant. President Glorilyn Cabugao expressed her gratitude, stating that the grant will help offer the sport of rowing to more youth, both on water and indoors.
With a mission to pursue the joy of rowing in a welcoming environment, empower and inspire crews to reach their full potential, and build community on the water, the Orillia Rowing Club is dedicated to promoting the sport and providing opportunities for all to participate.
